Dirty air filter next to a clean replacement filter

Indoor air quality for Sacramento Valley homes

Valley air carries dust most of the year and smoke for part of it. Ordinary filtration isn't built for either.

DIY first

How to improve indoor air without guessing

  1. Check what filter you have

Read the MERV rating off the frame and compare it with your equipment's recommended range.

  2. Check how fast it loads

Grey within four weeks means it is working hard. Check more often during dust or smoke season.

  3. Seal obvious leaks

Gaps around the filter slot let air bypass it. Use the correct filter fit; leave equipment openings and ventilation clear.

  4. Run the fan on smoke days

Recirculate indoor air through a suitable filter, with windows and doors closed. Follow local air-quality guidance.

  5. Match the filter to the blower

Too restrictive a filter can reduce airflow and cooling. Ask a technician before increasing the MERV rating beyond the manufacturer's guidance.

When to stop and call

  • A musty smell persists after a filter change.
  • The system struggles with a higher-MERV filter.
  • Anyone has asthma and symptoms are worse indoors. Seek medical advice as well as a filtration assessment.

What we install

  1. 1

    Micro Power Guard electric filter

Electrostatic filtration catching particles a standard filter passes straight through.

  2. 2

    Whole-home in-duct purifier

Mounted in the ductwork, treating air throughout the house while the system runs.

  3. 3

    MERV 16 HEPA filtration

High-performance, for commercial spaces and larger homes.

  4. 4

The right filter for your system

Higher MERV isn't automatically better. Too restrictive for your blower and you lose airflow.

It also saves you money

Poor filtration coats the evaporator coil. A dirty coil makes the system work harder for the same cooling and is one of the most common causes of the summer failures we attend. Better filtration is a comfort decision and a longevity one.

Questions about Indoor Air Quality

It can, which is why the filter has to match the blower. We size it to your system rather than selling you the highest rating available.
